CARLA NELSON GIVES US SOME FASHION TIPS

INTERVIEW WITH CARLA NELSON, PERSONAL STYLIST FROM ORLANDO FLORIDA. SHE SHARES HER BACKGROUND AND GIVES US SOME FASHION TIPS.

Carla, from Boston Native now living in Orlando, Florida, when did this all happen and what was the narrative behind you moving?

I moved from Boston Massachusetts along with my husband during the summer of 2015. The move was not motivated by fashion or Disney World as many may presume. We actually moved to be part of a church plant.”

It’s very inspiring how one can take up space in an environment you had to adjust to, what can you say about comfort zone?

”It's funny that you ask this, since moving my idea of comfort zones has changed dramatically. I was born and raised in Boston and never planned on leaving the comfort of the city. Moving across the country really made me stretch, it pushed me to be better than I'd ever been. In moving and in essence starting over I left my comfort zone behind and I believe this truly attributed to my success.”

Please correct me if I’m wrong, you spent your whole life planning to happily work at a corporation and there was a change in 2015 when you started your entrepreneur journey, what was the catalyst of the change?

”I loved the idea of the "security" that a corporate job could give which I know really is un-true. I always planned on working for a corporation but after graduating college and feeling completely un-inspired at my job my husband began encouraging me to discover what I truly wanted to be doing. After some discovery and some God given signs I decided it was time to do something that truly made me excited-fashion!”

This is a milestone year for you, @acreativecliche was turning 5 years a few days ago, not to mention your marriage being over 5 years also, what can we expect in 2020 for these remaining months?

”Yes! I can remember so vividly writing out what it would be like to celebrate 5 years! At that time A Creative Cliche was still just an idea, to see it live this long and grow to where it's grown is still such an amazing feeling. When it comes to the rest of 2020 I can't truly speak on what we have in store because truly COVID-19 has really given me a new perspective. I am just happy to be !”

In one of your post you mentioned how you used to wake up around 9 am in 2019, what can you say more about the thieves of success except for time management?

”Well I can tell you 2020 has taught me that your mindset is probably the biggest thief of success! Re-aligning my mind around what it means to work, focus, rest and be in alignment has truly been a game changer. I think that is even more impactful than time management because if you change your mindset around time you won't waste it anyways.”

Besides social media content creation, what other secrets do you do to put your work out there?

”Well, I think consistency is a word you hear a lot but it's the most potent word and concept. For the past five years I have been a go-to for fashion so it makes sense that many would bring their fashion questions to me. It makes sense that many would expect fashion and style related content and solutions. I've made myself a go-to in that regard.”

So regarding being fashion literate, what are the basics one can apply when shopping?

”Just like you make a list when you're grocery shopping, do the same when shopping for clothes. I know for some it sounds strange but you've got to be just as strategic shopping for clothes as you are everything else. As a personal stylist I've seen many closets that simply do not work for instance they've got 30 pairs of jeans and only 6 tops. This shows that there was no strategic thinking when it came to shopping. Have a plan, make a list!”
